Well, it continues to be kind of foggy and hilly in good old SF. Nothing wrong with that really. Except it kind of gets a little maddening. I did go out on the water a few times lately, in my special old rowboat from the 1930s. I keep meaning to take a digital photo to show you what it looks like, but I keep forgetting. Plus I'm a little bit afraid I'll drop it in the salt water and that will be that, for my 4 megapixel investment. But they sure are nice, those old wooden boats with curved hulls.

Also in the news, my friend Mike finally went crazy and kicked a guy in the stomach, dropping him to the ground, after the guy approached him and took a swing at him. I suppose it doesn't sound so crazy in that context. The thing is, the homeless situation is totally out of control out here, like Night of the Living Dead. The mayor, who people seem to love to hate, was elected on a platform of doing something about the problem, but he was stopped before he could really do anything. Plus he was on a totally different route, with the whole gay marriage thing. Which, according to the New Yorker, is the best thing to happen to the Republican party in a while, since it created a wedge issue.

Speaking of which, I watched Kerry beat up on Bush the other night, which was vaguely satisfying. Bush was sadly outgunned, and even Newsweek called him Elmer Befuddled. For a staged bit of nothing, it was pretty good TV, though it would have been a million times better if Kerry had the fortitude to really have a position and take a stand. But I have long maintained that Kerry's best bet for winning is Bush, who pretty much makes every move to lose the election you could hope for. Too bad Kerry can't seem to say that in a coherent way, or even say he is the candidate for change, which, as a line, is much better than his help is on the way and we could do better pablum. David Shrum, his chief strategist and speechwriter should really be fired, for those lines alone, let alone running a sad excuse for a campaign.
