Kind of a strange thing to see a person who you haven't seen in a long time. But it is even more of a reach with a guy I knew ten years ago, but I only knew him over the phone. So he really was a stranger in some sense, but I had a picture of him in my head, and he knew a lot of details about me. Which was the story with this guy I had dinner with who used to be an editor at a magazine I wrote for..

It is a dicey proposition, because it might have been awkward, but it turned out to be fine. He was legitimately a nice person, and we had a pretty entertaining evening out. But I was out late enough that I then declined to drive to visit Saul the next day. Which I felt a little guilty about, though having driven so much earlier in the week, I just couldn't face 14 hours more in two days to go out and work in the sun.

Anyway, about dinner: we discussed Manga, which is a topic I know very little about. I still don't know much about it, but I was favorably impressed that my dinner companion, Marc, was really enthusiastic about his job, which was to edit a magazine about Manga. He actually said he can't believe he gets paid to do his job, which is not something you hear many people say about their work. He also told me that in Japan, there are magazines 300 pages long full of Manga that sell 4 million copies a week. Pretty big in Japan.

In case you were going to ask, Manga is some kind of Japanese comic book art/graphic novella style. Because really, how often do you meet someone full of passion for what they do? Not that often I bet.
