Have you ever heard of the movie Mephisto? I hadn't, but I heard it was good and watched it, and I can save you the trouble. First of all, it's in German, and really no offense, I see no need to go beyond that to tell you not to watch it. It is full of unhappiness and dark impulses and early in the movie the protagonist puts on leg warmers before beating up his girlfriend.

I did get a fantastic collection of all of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, which I have been watching two episodes of per night, which may explain why I keep waking up in the middle of the night. It really makes me respect him more to review it all in order. Although I'm not a hundred percent behind the use of Richard Lewis, I can't help but feel that the show's content is all so true, that I believe he is really his friend, as the show has a considerable reality quotient, so I chalk up Lewis to his real life friendship with LD. I also think his use of Bob Odenkirk is a genius move. Even though he is sort of hard to watch, I have to confess to abject fanhood, which also shows some of the falsity of Seinfeld for what it is, which is a comedian's vehicle. Because Curb Your Enthusiasm is basically Seinfeld without Seinfeld. The only thing I don't like is the name, which I consider extremely awful.

Last night Rob was in town with Carrie and we got together for dinner. Plus a guy who was the guitar player for Janis Joplin came along with his wife. He was old. Rob is on tour with the lead singer from D Generation and just did Leno with him, which makes it the third time he has done Leno this year. I asked him about life on the road, since he just got off tour with Enrique. On this tour, they travel by bus, intead of helicoptor. And the bus has a bathroom, but you can only make number one in it. Anyhow, Rob was, as always, a pleasure to see. And his head is sill large. We went out to eat in Portrero Hill, which made me glad I didn't live there, even though there are a lot of artist studios out there and a sort of Williamsburgian sense that youth culture is running the show out there.. There is a beautiful police headquarters building for sale there, which I would buy, except for the fact that it is 1.7 million dollars, and also, if I had the money, I probably wouldn't spend it on that. But it is really an amazing building with dust colored columns in front, and little palm trees growing in between them. It looks like it could be a police building from rural Bolivia in the 1930s.

Apart from a stiff neck, I am feeling good. I tried to sleep on a hot water bottle last night to soften it up but it didn't work. Mostly I try and only face to the left, which is considerably less painful.
