What would you consider bigger news: that my dad was driving his car yesterday and someone crashed into him, leaving both drivers fine physically but the car pretty smashed up; that after a year of insane labor, the farm is now back from being burnt, complete with electricity and hot water and all that; or that I am just 2000 miles short of reaching premier executive status on United Airlines, which confers some sort of special privelige to book online and use the Red Carpet Club. Oh, or that my Aunt fell and fractured her spine and had surgery?

All of those milestones happened this weekend. That airline thing doesn't really mean anything, I guess, and the car crash, while almost catastrophic, was a near miss, really, because both of them walked away from it, even though of course you can have a stroke or heart attack from just being so worked up as a person might be after their car is smashed. But no heart attacks or strokes. So that's good. And the surgery went ok.

The farm however marks a high water mark for persistence. And it is related to the air miles thing, in that I was flying back and forth and working on the place, often instead of visiting family and friends. But the big payoff was putting on the shower, in the newly rebuilt house, which was satisfying beyond belief.

Oh, I guess it's also news that last night I watched Saved!, which was a heavy handed movie about Jesus, starring Mandy Moore, which was supposed to be a comedy. It is watchable, but feels like a talented first time writer and director did it when they were 22 years old. Unfortunately, I think actual grown ups did it, which moves it from being a promising first movie to a semi amusing but lame movie. To strain to say something nice, I will note that there is a little clever wordplay, though that feels like it was added by someone after the fact, since it only pops up every ten minutes or so, and the girl who played Weiner Dog is in present in a tiny supporting role, though she is underused for comedic purposes.
